LabCorp lines up $8 billion company purchase

Reuters reports that Laboratory Corporation of America Holdings (LabCorp) is intending to acquire contract research firm Pharmaceutical Product Development LLC (PPD). If successful, LabCorp will need to find in excess of $8 billion to finalise the deal. Image Credit PPD operates out of Wilmington, North Carolina, offering outsourced research services to medical, pharmaceutical and biotech companies. It works across a range of medical specialisms, including cardiovascular medicine and urology. PPD is owned by private equity – the company was taken private in 2011, at a cost of $3.9 billion. Several parties interested in the deal If LabCorp succeeds in its bid, it will be the company’s biggest ever acquisition and will help it to realise the strategy of having lab testing services held under one corporate structure.
